Praise + Prayers
Happy November!
It has been a wonderful, crazy, Jesus filled, encouraging and growing 5 months! From being home in Canada for a month, coming back to Kenya, then setting up a class and a home before school started. 3 days following I had 25 individuals with SO much personality enter grade 5. My class this year is filled with life, sass, love and genuine curiosity. The conversations we have, the hugs they give and the Christ centred discussions that happen are SO encouraging.
A couple of my favourite things throughout the day are…
-Mornings when my kids get to have personal devotion time. They have the opportunity to read their bibles + journal what the Lord has been teaching/sharing with them. This is a time where we talk about what it means to pursue a relationship with Jesus. I have the opportunity to really share with them what a relationship CAN look like. That it’s so much more than going to church and hearing about him in school, it’s good and deeply satisfying, it’s wrestling with our sin and recognizing our freedom IN Christ, it’s seeking truth and hope through his word and the life of Christ.
-Our truth statement. This summer, God had really been challenging me with holding on to the truths of who He is and who I am in him. I had written out this 4 liner truth statement to fight the lies that I was battling. Coming back this year, it started the conversation in my class about what it means to fight for truth and speak truth to our hearts. How sometimes truth is not what we think, feel or see, but absolute truth is what God says through his word. We ended up creating a truth statement as a class (With actions) that we say every morning. Here’s a video of them saying it! The words are “I am a child of the most high king, I am created to be a kingdom builder, a gospel spreader, I am set apart, loved, pure, chosen. Free from the bondages of sin. Free to live for him. I have access to his presence, his Holy Spirit lives in me, his son Jesus has died for me. And because of this, I am choosing to live today for Him. To love those around me. To be a light for him. Because I am a child of the most high king”
They’re sweet aren't they? Please be praying that the Lord would continue to allow this truth to sink into their hearts and transform their minds! I see God working in such awesome ways!
A few prayer requests…
For wisdom and discernment as I am to decide whether or not I will sign another two year contract. Our intent to return is due on December 1st.
Against anxiety + for a deeper trust in the Lord. These past few months, I’ve wrestled with anxiety in a way I haven’t had to in a long time. Please be praying for protection over my time spent with Jesus and for eyes that are fixed upon him and his ability.
For a new student in our class. She came a few week ago and speaks only Korean. Please be praying for her transition to our school.
For a friends dad who is very ill. Please be praying for healing and peace.
For my class. Please be praying that these kids will have hearts that are GOOD soil. The the Lord will plant the seeds and that they will begin to grow. As well, be praying for unity. As we still fight with our sinful nature, sometimes there are individuals who don’t like each other as much. Please be praying for love and grace.
And as always, here are a few photos from this year so far…
